Wendy discovered clay on an art foundation course. She went on to study at the University of Central Lancashire in 1998, gaining a BA in 3D Design (Ceramics). Since her graduation, she has continued to teach ceramics and run workshops for schools, colleges and community groups. She has participated in symposiums and workshops in Britain, Europe and America.
Textures from natural geological forms which Wendy observes on her local walks in North Wales are her main inspiration. She is also inspired by architecture and antiquity. Wendy makes abstract sculptural work in varied scale, carving into the clay body. She uses volcanic glazes to create rich textural surfaces to evoke the natural structure of rock strata. She fires to stoneware temperatures in an electric kiln, varying the atmosphere from oxidation to heavy reduction and her work can be displayed in interior or exterior spaces.
