Bruce Chivers is an internationally acclaimed potter. His recent work embraces both traditional and contemporary practice. His work is included in National art collections and is represented in major Craft Council listed galleries in the U.S.A., Europe, Australia and U.K. with exhibitions including the V & A Museum London, The Royal West of England Academy Bristol and Fukuoka City Gallery-Japan.
Bruce say of his work ‘my work is essentially about mark making on simple forms.
‘I always keep an eye on the Zen notion of embracing the element of surprise through the action of flame and gestural brushwork directly onto ceramic pieces.’
“Chivers is an artist potter whose work shines with a flowing lyricism in which decoration is intrinsically linked to form but is equally linked to natural random processes of image formation of the kind favoured by the American Abstract Expressionists and the European ‘matter’ painters.” Peter Davies.
