Kate Windibank

Kate creates sculptural vessels which explore the transformational nature of time on human experience. Her practice involves a continuous investigation of structure and surface, with particular emphasis on ceramic materials, fragmentation and transfiguration. Kate’s making process consists of the tearing, breaking and joining of clay to create organic forms with undulating edges, fault lines and fissures.

Having always felt compelled to seek out a creative existence, she discovered clay as a child, but life took her on a different journey. While studying for a BA (Hons) Fine Art she specialised in video, which led to a long career as a visual effects artist creating CGI for movies and television.

In time, Kate grew disenchanted by the increasing automation of the industry, and looking for a new creative outlet, she enrolled in a ceramics class. The creative possibility of clay began as fascination but quickly led to obsession, prompting her to leave behind her twenty-year career and return to college to study ceramics.

Since graduating in 2019, Kate has taken part in numerous ceramics shows and exhibitions. She has gallery representation across the UK and in Europe, and her sculptural vessels are held in private collections around the world.
