Sue completed an Art & Design Foundation Course at Middlesex Polytechnic, London in 1991. In 1995, she graduated with a BA(Hons) in 3D Design and Ceramics from Middlesex University, London. In the year 2000, Sue participated in a residency in the Isle of Wight which saw the development of her tableware.
Sue’s multidisciplinary conceptual practice comprises stand-alone pieces, installation, film and tableware, collectively defined by a distinct language. Current work is rooted in traditional techniques, thrown forms made on the wheel, firing in real flame kilns and using natural wood ash deposits and the reduction flame to add unpredictable embellishment. Most notable recent developments have been to fire porcelain and stoneware pieces in a wood-fired kiln. Sue uses the ash deposits to flow around the pieces with the flame to create individual patina during this 14 hour firing.
Over 20 years, Sue has built an international reputation across the UK, Europe, the US and Canada. Sue is a Selected Member of the Craft Potters Association.
