Asymmetric Squish #1 BG550Y30
This smoke-fired vessel is made using a technique called nerikomi – a process involving the multi-layering of coloured clay which is then cut into thin sheets and constructed by hand. The soft, earthy palette and gently distorted geometric pattern reflects the effect of natural weathering on rock strata.

About this maker
Barbara Gittings’ smoke fired, nerikomi porcelain vessels are quiet, contemplative and sensual, as she wants anyone looking at the work to want to touch it and be drawn in.
